Medical Informatics
Cluster
- Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics
Description
The group deals with the analysis and design of systems to be applied both to Medicine in the strictest sense and to the support of health and well-being, by employing all the information technologies that are necessary to implement such systems. The specific issues include the representation of medical knowledge by means of terminologies, classifications and ontologies, the processing and analysis of microscope bioimages, telemedicine, and in general the study and analysis of e-Health systems.
The highly interdisciplinary activities are performed also by cooperating with the Medical Area Department of the University, the World Health Organisation, the Central Health Office of the Friuli - Venezia Giulia Region, and several European partners through the COST EUROTELEPATH and Marie Curie AIDPATH projects.
In particular, together with the WHO and the Italian Collaboration Center for WHO Classifications, the group actively contributes to the development and validation of ICD-11 classifications (International Classification of Diseases), ICHI (International Classification of Health Interventions), and the Italian modification ICD-10-IM.
Members of the group are editors o guest editors of specialised magazines (Digital Health, Journal of Telemedicine and Applications) and co-organizers of conferences and workshops.
